A summary of important goals realized by the Tolt Triangle Fire Council 2005
January: A presentation hosted by the International Forestry Consultants and TTFC members on, “forest health and commercial thinning” was given to all interested property owners in TTFC. (This started an organized group thinning project.)
February: The Community Wildfire Protection Plan was submitted to state and county officials for their review and approval. The plan, the first for this region, was finally approved in March, 2005.
April:TTFC applied for recognition as a national Firewise community. We received that status in August. The Tolt Triangle Fire Council is now officially a Firewise community!
Watch as these "Firewise Community" signs appear alongside roads within our communities.
June: TTFC had informational booths at both Duvall Days and the Duvall Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast. Want to see some pictures?
July: TTFC again had a booth at the Carnation 4th of July celebration and co-hosted the Thinning for Forest Health Workshop. The WSU Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP), International Forest Consultants, and Tolt Triangle Fire Council created this workshop. More than 40 participants from all over King County attended. We also hosted the King County Rural Forest Commission (RFC) as they visited the TTFC area and toured ongoing and planned forest thinnings. The news media accompanied the RFC on this tour with resulting articles appearing in the King County Journal, and on both KOMO TV and KVI radio.
November: At the Lake Joy Community Club meeting, TTFC was presented with a plaque stating formal recognition as a Fire Wise Community. The DNR stated that we are a role model for the rest of the region.
